Byron Washom

Byron Washom

Byron Washom currently serves as Sr International Advisor to the US DOE and the World Bank for developing low carbon strategies in fuel cells, IGCC and carbon sequestration. The World Bank has emerged as the significant policy and funding sources for GHG mitigation and the firm has mobilized more World Bank-Global Environment Facility (GEF) capital than any other entity in the world. He is a four time Rockefeller Foundation grantee (Rockefeller), a Heinz Endowment grantee (Heinz), and a former Steering Committee member of the Montreux Energy Conference Board (Montreux).

Mr. Washom was also the founder and President of Advanco Corp which in 1984 set the long standing world records for solar electric conversion efficiency at 29.4% with the Vanguard Parabolic Dish Stirling Project (Vanguard). This accomplishment led to Mr. Washom receiving an "IR100 Award" from R&D Magazine for having introduced one of the 100 outstanding new innovations in the world in 1984 (IR100). This technology was later chosen by NASA as one of two technologies to power the International Space Station (Space Station Power Supply), and in 1985, Rockwell International (Rocketdyne) acquired the technology and assets of Advanco Corp. Mr. Washom has a BS in Management and Finance (1971) and an MBA (1972) from the University of Southern California, and he completed his postgraduate engineering studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1975-76).
