Sanjoy Banerjee
Sanjoy Banerjee is Professor (Abovescale1) of Chemical Engineering with a joint appointment is Mechanical Engineering, and in the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he has been since 1980, serving as Department Chair from 1984-89, and Vice-Chair from 1982-84. During this period the ChemE Department attained a reputation for being one of the top in the US- a reputation it currently retains. Before that he held appointments at Berkeley and at McMaster University. Previous to that he worked at Atomic Energy of Canada, where his ultimate position was Acting Director of the Applied Science Division, with responsibility for the Canadian reactor safety research program. He has had visiting appointments as Guest Professor , ETHZ (1990), Mitsubishi Professor, University of Tokyo (1996 Fall), Burgers Professor, TU Delft (1996 Spring) and the Sharma Professor, UDCT Bombay (2003). He has received various awards, amongst them the Danckwerts Memorial Lectureship (IChemE), Melville Medal (ASME), Donald Q. Kern Award (AIChE), the Technical Achievement Award in Thermalhydraulics (ANS) and Heat Transfer Memorial Award (ASME). He was a Founding Member of the Advisory Committee on Nuclear Safety (Canada) and is currently a Member of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS), which is congressionally mandated to maintain oversight over US reactor regulation and research. His research interests are in turbulence and multiphase/complex flows.
