The SSLEC is developing novel technologies to achieve an efficiency target of 200 lumens/Watt (60%). The U.S. Department of Energy estimates over $98 billion in energy savings could be realized by 2020 if solid state lighting can achieve these breakthrough efficiency targets. The three-story sphere features true 3D 360-degree projection of a multicenter hydrogen bond; researchers interactively examine and “fly” through the giant bond in this immersive environment.
